CHEMICAL PEELS

The Chemical Peel is a procedure which involves a chemical solution that is applied to the skin which causes a
layer of skin to separate and peel off. The new, regenerated skin underneath is usually smoother in texture and
more even in color than the old skin.  There are various strengths and concentrations of Chemical Peels each
developed for specific indications such as wrinkles, acne, overall skin texture and skin tone.  Some chemical peels
are mild and have no down time, others are stronger and have down time for up to one week.  The stronger
chemical peels are deeper and remove thicker layers of skin which result in more significant improvement of skin
texture and tone.   Chemical peels can be performed on the face, neck, chest, hands, arms, and legs.

Benefits and Visible results of Chemical Peels

•        Correct uneven skin pigmentation
•        Texture becomes more refined
•        Fine lines and wrinkles become less apparent
•        Oily or acne-prone skin is improved
•        Enlarged pores appear smaller
•        Superficial scars appear reduced
•        Skin appears healthier, more youthful and radiant

Generally, no anesthesia is needed for peels since they cause only a slight stinging sensation during application.
Protecting skin from the sun is important following a peel.

In a consultation with Dr. Rubinstein or our medical aesthetician, a treatment regimen is designed to identify the
strength of the peel based on the condition of your skin and the desired result as well as available recovery time.

B-LIFTx

Indication:                          Acne Prone Skin
Recommended Series:  3 B-LIFTx Peels, then once every 6-8 months for maintenance
Downtime:                         Minimal, 2 days of light to medium peeling

B-LIFTx is an innovative formulation of beta hydroxyl acid created by the inventor of Retin-A. The B-LIFTx action is
enhanced by an important technological advancement, the MICROSPONGE. This technology allows B-LIFTx to
reach into and affect very fine lines and small surface imperfections.  B-LIFTx lifts dead, dull cells off the surface of
your skin. The procedure stimulates a “burst of renewal” within your skin to bring healthy, young, living cells to the
surface. This advanced medical strength skin renewal treatment is only offered only by dermatologists.

Vitalize Peel

Indication:                          Uneven skin tone and texture, tired looking skin
Recommended Series:  2-3 Vitalize Peels, 4-6 weeks apart; then once every 6-8 months for maintenance
Downtime:                         Medium, 2-3 days of medium to heavy peeling beginning 2 days after the procedure

The VITALIZE Peel from SkinMedica brings the benefit of alpha-hydroxy and retinoic acids in a unique blend to
create one of the strongest, but safest and most gentle peels. Even after one peel you will begin to notice a dramatic
improvement in your skin’s texture and tone, lessening of superficial lines and a healthier, more youthful look and
feel. The renewal process has been clinically proven to help pigmentation problems (such as age spots) fade and
stimulate collagen production in the cells underneath. The VITALIZE Peel is safe and gentle for all skin types.

ALPHAHYDROXY ACIDS (AHAs)

Indication:                          Uneven skin tone and texture, tired looking skin
Recommended Series:  2-3 AHA Peels, 4-6 weeks apart; then once every 6-8 months for maintenance
Downtime:                         Mild to High, depending on the strength of the peel.

Alphahydroxy acids (AHAs) such as glycolic, lactic, or fruit acids range from the mildest of the peel formulas to
higher strengths and produce peels that can provide smoother, brighter-looking skin.  The strength of the peel is
based on your desired results, the condition of your skin and available recovery time.  A consultation with Dr.
Rubinstein or our aesthetician helps define your goals.

TRICHLORACETIC ACID (TCA)

Indication:                          Uneven skin tone and texture, fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation problems
Recommended Series:  One (physician performed) peel
Downtime:                         5 days of intense peeling, plan for 1 full week of down time. Plus no sun exposure for 3
weeks, and 3 months limited sun exposure.

This deep peel, causes a substantial layer of skin to separate and peel off.  The new, regenerated skin underneath
is usually smoother, less wrinkled, and more even in color than the old skin.
The best candidates for TCA peels are patients with wrinkles, deep pigmentation such as melasma and acne
scars.  TCA peels yield a high satisfaction rate and are excellent for patients seeking a substantial improvement in
skin texture and color.  Patients should plan on one full week of recovery and avoid sun exposure for several
months.  This peel may have some adverse effects associated with its deep penetration, therefore it is always
performed by a physician.  All possible adverse effects are thoroughly discussed with the patient prior to the
procedure.
